Kata-Riina Tikka, a participiant of the 2025 Global Sumud Flotilla, gave a speech during the Palestine march in Lahti on 10th of April. Kata urges us to keep on fighting and in their speech tells of the moral horrors developing in the psyche of everyday Israelis inside the machine committing genocide against Palestinians.
Kata’s speech in article form transcribed by a human:
”It’s been a while since the Flotilla. The things are starting to get mixed up and everything feels kind-off weird now. And we’ve had some time to come together and talk about the things that happened. Of course at the time it felt just like horrible like [to] see the conditions of the people in the prisons. This is not going to be a surpsise to anyone in here. We’ve all seen it. And that’s the sick part, isn’t it? We all know whats happening.
And after processing we started to understand as well what it is doing to Israel and to the Israeli people. It’s all like premeditated, what kind of people they want to create in that county. You don’t want like a morally sound group of people to then destroy another group of people. It wouldn’t be possible. So you can clearly see this everywhere in Israel.
I don’t know how to describe it to you the best. My experience is mostly of the guards – like the prison guards and the army and all that. Just to see that… Everyone is like really pretty and dolled up – and committing a genocide – in like full make-up and all gelled up and soo-o distracting and… I… I feel like they also need to distract themshelfes of what is happening and what they are doing. ’Cause what kind of a person can commit a genocide and not feel anything about it? It is what they are saying. But I don’t think its true.
At the moment its like: Everyone is picking on ”the guy with a mole” – let’s say. Like that’s just and example that we actually witnessed in the prison. If you are in any way different, any of the people that are supposed to be their own, they treat differently if you don’t look good if you don’t share the image that they wanna maintain.
And then imagine how they treat someone who is different: Different ethnicity or religion or [different] in any way. It is just not accepted. And the things that they are ready to do show how much they don’t respect that it has destroyed their whole nation. And it is not the Palestinian nation. Of course that as well, but the moral destruction that is visible in Israelis you can’t compare.
Yeah, so… What to do about that? *laughs* If anyone has any ideas, I’m really up for anything. This is already a lot. There is already a lot of people here and there will be more. Let’s just keep on doing what we are doing.
On top of raising awareness and telling people to be active and keep doing it and whatever you know – it feels like nothing makes a difference – but it does. Like let’s, let’s keep going. And supporting each other as well. That’s the best we can do. There is no way that people’s minds aren’t opening up. Slowly, slowly… But it has to be happening and that’s what we have to believe.
Does everybody here know eachother? I would love to exchange numbers and when like anybody has an idea let’s come together and do something. Actually, practically. Like nobody leaves here without having the contact of another person!
